No Excuses University

Our ‘No Excuses’ initiative began in August 2006 when a team of our staff attended a workshop given by Mr. Damen Lopez.  He shared the success at his school as they created a ‘No Excuses’ philosophy for their building.  Soon, he came and spoke to Lakeview and our journey began when we were accepted as an official No Excuses University in February 2007.

Over the last 3 years we have grown in our college readiness philosophy.  We have instituted a model of continuous assessment and analysis of data to meet the needs of all learners.  We provide daily acceleration for all students based on the data analysis.  This is Lakeview’s third year of instituting PBIS to teach successful social interactions.  In addition to high levels of academic expectations, positive social behaviors are a must for college and job success.

The college spirit has grown at Lakeview as well.  As you walk around Lakeview you will see our college spirit proudly displayed.  Classrooms continue to form relationships with universities so the students can learn about college life.  Many students have taken and will continue to take field trips to universities to understand the “college experience.”  They spend time talking with and learning from current college students and become excited for their future college experience.
