Traffic Safety
Traffic Safety at Lakeview No Excuses University
Each year we face a problem with traffic safety and how it affects the students at Lakeview School. Each morning and afternoon the car and pedestrian traffic around our school is very heavy. Every morning and afternoon we need to ensure that our 600 students get to and from school safely. In order to do this we need everyone’s help. Please take a few minutes to carefully review the information below, which outlines procedures that will keep everyone at Lakeview safe.
Drop-Off Areas: Students may only be dropped off on the south side of Lakeview Lane. Parents should drop off students behind the bus lane where the driveway starts. Cars should pull all the way to the curb and students must exit on the curb side of the street. Parents should quickly drop off their children and then pull away so another car can drop off. No one may drop off students in or next to the bus lane at any time.
Lakeview Lane: If you wish to park on Lakeview Lane, you must make sure you are in a legal spot and you must walk your child/children across the street. No one may pass in between buses. You must either walk in front of the first bus or behind the last bus. You may not park in front of driveways, leave an unattended car running, or park diagonally in the street.
Bus Stop Arms: Please be aware that it is illegal to pass a bus when its stop arm is out.
Parking Lot: Everyday our parking lot is closed from 8:25-8:40am and 2:55-3:10pm (Wednesdays 2:25-2:40pm). This means that no one is allowed to enter or leave the parking lot during these times. This procedure is for everyone, including staff members. Please do not ask student patrols to move the safety horses. Also, students and parents should not cross through the parking lot when it is closed.
Crossing Washington or Bode: Students that cross Washington or Bode must cross where there is an adult crossing guard. They should only cross in the direction that the crossing guards are showing them. Students will not be allowed to cross Washington Street at Lakeview Lane unless a parent is with them. Parents are encouraged to cross Washington in front of the school where there is a crossing guard rather than teaching their children unsafe practices.
Dropping off on Washington Street: Parents may not drop off their children in front of the parking lot entrance or exit. Cars may not stop or park anywhere within 20 feet of stop signs. If you are parking on Washington, please make sure you are in a legal spot. There is no standing or parking in front of the parking lot on Washington Street.
Dogs: Dogs or other family pets are not allowed on school property.
Walkers: Walkers and parents who are picking up their children need to clear the area immediately following the first bell at 3:00pm. Walkers and car riders are dismissed first so that they get a head start to get off campus so that our buses are able to leave after the car and pedestrian traffic. The sidewalks should then be less congested for the busers to find their bus. Please help dismiss all of our students in a safe and orderly manner by leaving the area when you have reconnected with your child.
Thank you for your support with these problems. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. James Tohme at 847-357-6600. By following all of the rules and driving regulations, we can keep of all our children safe. Thank you for your continued support.
