Dear Lakeview Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you back to Lakeview Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year. I truly hope you had a wonderful summer with your children. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures. A few highlights from my summer included a trip to Ohio to visit my parents, a week floating on Kentucky Lake, and several college visits. My oldest son, Chad, is going to be a senior-yikes!
The Lakeview staff is dedicated to bringing out the very best in your children and helping them achieve their highest potential. Throughout the summer our staff members have already been hard at work preparing to ensure your child’s success. Staff devoted time this summer attending trainings, reading professional books, planning curriculum, and getting their classrooms ready to create an amazing learning environment for students. We are all anxiously awaiting their arrival, and we know this year will be filled with endless opportunities to open doors to new learning.
Here are a few updates and reminders in preparation for the school year:
If you are coming to kindergarten this year, we would love to have you and a family member join us for a playdate on August 9 from 11am-noon. It’s a great way to meet our kindergarten teachers and other students/families. It is at Lakeview School. Weather permitting we will meet behind the school to play on the playground and complete an activity under the pavilion. We will be indoors if there is inclement weather. We hope you can join us!
School of Information Day/Classroom Assignments
Visit Lakeview on Thursday, August 10 anytime between 9:00am-noon or 5:30-7:30pm to see who your child’s teacher will be, update health records, sign up for conferences, join our PTA, and much more! Families who qualify for our free and reduced lunch program can shop for free school supplies during this time too. Please make sure you have registered your children to ensure your child is on a class list. New this year, registration now requires all students to prove residency each year.
Back to School Night
Join us for Back to School Night on Thursday, August 17 from 5:30-7:30 pm to kick off another exciting year at Lakeview! This is one of my favorite nights. Please don’t miss it! More information can be found on the invitation by clicking here .
First Day of School
We look forward to welcoming all students in Grades 1-6 on Monday, August 21. Kindergarten students will begin on Monday, August 28.
Enrollment forms need to be returned to the school office with any updated information. If your Student Enrollment Forms and proof of residency are not returned, your child is not enrolled for the upcoming school year, and will not be included on a class list. Your lease must also be current for your child’s name to be on a class list. Call the Lakeview office if you have any questions at (847)357-6600. The school office will open on Monday, August 7th.
A Reminder to Parents of Incoming Sixth Graders
A packet was mailed home in January regarding health requirements for entry into the sixth grade. A current physical examination (dated 8-15-16 or later) is required for entry into the sixth grade. All children entering sixth grade must show proof of receiving 1 dose of Tdap, 3 hepatitis B vaccines, 2 doses of varicella vaccines and 1 dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine. Please have the Certificate of Child Health Examination (sixth grade physical examination form) completed by the physician and documentation showing proof of required vaccines and return it to the school nurse by the first day of school in August 2016. Sixth grade students who have not had the above requirements completed will be excluded from school.

Box Tops for Education
We are off to a GREAT start. We have already sent in $108.60 worth of Box Tops . Thank you to all who have helped by looking for Box Tops, clipping them, and sending them to school. Help us reach our GOAL! Remember you can bring them to the office or send them in with your student to give to a staff member. Mrs. Jan Manze is our staff member in charge of collecting, so if you have any questions, you can email her email@example.com Some tips to help us collect even more:
- Double check your pantry for any Box Tops.
- Going at a friends house? Ask them if there are any Box Tops in their pantry. My neighbor had 7 Box Tops!
- Ask your neighbors to help by saving Box Tops for you. I have 5 different families saving them for me.
- If you are a den leader for Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, maybe a badge could be earned for collecting the most Box Tops for Lakeview.
- If you belong to a book club or exercise group and they do not save Box Tops for another school, ask them to help out by saving them for Lakeview.
