Principal’s Message for February 8th, 2019
We have had a great week! As we have been continuing our 21 day challenge with the students, we focused on meditation this past week. Students learned that a few minutes of meditation a day quiets our minds, raise levels of happiness and lowers stress.
A highlight of the week was spending some time in music class with these 6th grade students. They were embracing learning how to play the ukuleles. I was amazed on how engaged and determined these students were. It was an awesome lesson!
Student-Led Conferences (February 14th and 15th)
Student-Led Conferences are coming next week. They are on February 14th and 15th. You should have received your conference invite and have returned it back to school confirming you can attend. If you have NOT confirmed, please do so ASAP. We are expecting every student to participate in this conference with his or her parents. This conference involves your child as the leader showing what he/she has learned and taking the initiative to reflect on his/her performance to set new academic and social goals with you. There will be more than one family in the room at the same time. The classroom teacher will move around the room and meet with each family group for a short time to make comments and answer questions. Each family has 30 minutes allocated for the conference time.
We believe this is a great opportunity for your child to explain their learning. You can participate by giving them praise for their efforts and discuss opportunities for growth. We are certain that you will see tremendous progress as you look through your child’s portfolio.
Please remember, you always have the option to talk to your child’s teacher throughout the year. If this conference does not meet your needs, please feel free to set up another time to talk to the classroom teacher. We are always happy to discuss your child’s progress with you anytime throughout the school year.
We will have the book fair happening in the gym from 12-8 during conferences on Feb. 14th. Please stop in and support our PTA by purchasing a new book.
This year our PTA will be hosting Valentine’s Day parties for grades K-3 AND hosting an assembly for grades 4-6. If you decide to send in valentines for your child to pass out to classmates, please do NOT send any edible items with the valentines. If you want to send something to pass out with your child’s valentines, you can send any non-edible item such as pencils, erasers, etc.
If you did not get a chance to send in the 100% cotton, white shirt and $1.00 for an upcoming all school tie dye activity, please do so by Feb. 13th. Thanks!
Enjoy your weekend!
