December 13, 2020
Dear Parents,

We hope everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather and the sun this past week!  It makes the fact that winter is quickly approaching a bit easier.  Speaking of winter, let us start the holiday season with a school wide spirit week.  We are excited to have this optional spirit week for staff and students to participate in.

To add to the fun, our music teacher Ms. Richardson is having a holiday story and sing-along event.  You don’t want to miss this night activity.  Simply click on the link below on December 17 at 6:30.

Finally to kick off the holiday season the staff has prepared holiday fun activities for their classes to do Friday, December 18 in the afternoon.  Your children will have a blast before they leave us for winter break.  Be sure to ask them about the fun.

New D54 Wellness Website

The year 2020 has been a difficult time for so many people. Throughout this year one thing that hasn’t changed is District 54’s commitment to the well-being of our community. This week we are launching a new online District 54 Wellness Space. This website includes videos, resources and links to valuable activities for students, for families and for staff. For example, the student pages include energizing videos and calming videos, read-alouds of books about feelings, and links to help children manage their emotions. The pages for adults include mental health webinars, COVID-related resources and links to support provided by District 54. We hope you will take the time to explore this self-care website and engage with the resources that best support your needs.

You can also view the first four modules. Don’t forget to share your family’s experiences with us on social media with #OptimisticHousehold and #54Happiness or by sending photos and videos to [email protected].

Return to In-Person Learning

On Jan. 11, pending improvement in the health and operational metrics, all District 54 staff will return to working on-site (with exemptions for staff members with approved accommodations for health reasons). Some of our special education students will also return that week. A separate communication will be sent to those students.

On Jan. 19 (the day after the Martin Luther King holiday), students who had previously been enrolled in hybrid instruction would return to the classroom following the same schedule they were on before the adaptive pause (Mondays/Thursdays or Tuesdays/Fridays). More information will be sent after winter break with reminders about the self-screener, mask requirements and other back-to-school notifications.
