Good afternoon Lakeview families,

District 54 will provide an asynchronous day of learning tomorrow, Friday, October 16th.  This day will focus on activities based on the book I Am Human by well-known author Susan Verde and Art by Peter H. Reynolds.  Their book, I Am Human, is a book about embracing empathy and the potential of each day. This book and the activities for the day, encourage us to make good choices by acting with compassion and having empathy for ourselves and others. The social-emotional lesson activities will focus on being The Best Version of Me! Students will be able to select activities that support their social-emotional well-being. Our school will also have a padlet where students can share a picture, post or video of their work from the day.  Click on the interactive link below for activities ….

This day will focus on how we learn, dream, and wonder to be the best version of ourselves. We hope you’ll join us to share how you’re connected to your friends, your family, your school, and your community. After all, we are all humans together!

El Distrito 54 proporcionará un día de aprendizaje asincrónico el viernes 16 de octubre. Este día se centrará en actividades basadas en el libro Yo Soy Humano de la autora Susan Verde y arte por Peter H. Reynolds. El libro, Yo Soy Humano, es un libro sobre cómo tener empatía y el potencial de cada día. Este libro y las actividades del día nos animan a tomar buenas decisiones, actuar con compasión y tener empatía por nosotros mismos y los demás. ¡Las actividades de la lección socioemocional se enfocarán en ser la mejor versión de sí mismo! Los estudiantes podrán seleccionar actividades que apoyan su bienestar socioemocional. Nuestra escuela también tendrá un padlet donde los estudiantes podrán compartir una foto, publicación o video de su trabajo del día. Enviaremos el enlace interactivo el viernes 16 de octubre.

Este día se enfocará en cómo ser la mejor versión de nosotros mismos y cómo aprendemos, soñamos y nos maravillamos. Esperamos que se una a nosotros para compartir cómo están conectados con sus amigos, su familia, su escuela y su comunidad. Como sabes, ¡juntos todos somos seres humanos!

Schaumburg Parent University – Building a Happier Culture at Home

Have you noticed that some people are able to maintain a relatively positive attitude regardless of what’s happening around them? Fortunately, a positive attitude can be cultivated, with a little practice. Join Devin C. Hughes, keynote speaker and author, to learn real, tangible and practical strategies you can apply now to get on the highway to happiness.

In this session, you will learn:

  • New ideas for boosting happiness for you and your family;
  • How positive psychology and social-emotional intelligence impacts your health; and
  • Strategies for creating a positive culture at home.

¿Ha notado que algunas personas pueden mantener una actitud relativamente positiva independientemente de lo que esté sucediendo a su alrededor? Information for families participating in the Hybrid Program

Hybrid learning begins on Monday, October 19th for our Group A students, and Tuesday, October 20th for our Group B students.  We can’t wait to welcome our students back inside the school!  You should have received an email from me with Group A or Group B assignments.  With this shift, there are many new procedures we have put in place to maintain a safe learning environment.  Please be sure to read the below information carefully to support the success of our school.  

Hybrid Bus Pass and Self-Screening Card Pick-Up

Pick up was today at Lakeview school (as communicated in the recent hybrid email).  If you did not pick it up, please come to the school and pick up tomorrow between 8:30-3:00.  In order for your child to attend on campus learning, each student MUST have the green self-screening card.  This card indicates that you have reviewed all the COVID symptoms with your child and is cleared to come to school.  In addition to the card, the primary email address associated with your child will receive the self-screening tool that will need to be completed each day prior to your student arriving to Lakeview.  Again, this electronic screener must be completed for your child each morning by 8:00am.  If it is not completed, we will be calling home as a reminder.  If there is a pattern of the electronic self-screening tool not being completed we may need to discuss moving back to virtual for your student.  Our number one goal is keeping all staff and students safe. 

Hybrid Lunch/Recess

In order to ensure the health and safety of your children, we will not be sharing any lunch recess equipment in our hybrid model.  Please note that our outdoor spaces have been divided into zones and each student’s classroom will be assigned to a zone each week to ensure social distancing during lunch recess.  We have strategically designated specific areas in each zone where students will be able to take a mask break if desired. Also, please send a sack lunch with your child to school.  We are asking families to refrain from having a hot lunch delivered to school the two days of attendance. 

Hybrid Technology/Materials Reminder

We look forward to welcoming a number of our students back to school next week on their assigned cohort days.  We know that we will also have the wonderful opportunity to continue to learn with our students who have chosen to continue to attend school remotely.  If your child has opted for the in-person hybrid model, please plan to come to school with your district issued device, charger and headsets.  We would also like you to send all supplies and books they use at home.  This includes, white board, math journals, pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc.  We suggest each child keeps all their school materials in their backpack and takes out as needed.  This way we can ensure the needed materials travel back and forth from home to school.  This equipment will be essential to learning and staying connected as a classroom community. 

Hybrid Arrival and Dismissal Procedures 

Student Arrival
Students should arrive at school between 8:30 – 8:35 AM.  There will be no supervision outside prior to 8:30.   

Students will enter the building through the following Door numbers:


  • Door 5 – 3rd and 4th Grade
  • Door 6 – Kinder, 1st and 2nd Grade
  • Door 7 – 5th and 6th Grade
  • Front Door – Any age student who will be dropped off through the drop and go
  • Front Door – Any age walker where the front door is closer than the doors by the buses


  • Door 2 – 1st and 2nd Grade Walkers
  • Door 5 – 3rd and 4th Grade Walkers
  • Door 7 – 5th and 6th Grade Walkers
  • Front Door – Kindergarten Walkers

School Property/Sidewalk:

To maximize our open space and promote social distancing, only students and staff will be permitted on the school grounds and surrounding sidewalks.  No parents or guests should be gathering in these areas.  Parents can feel free to walk students to and/or wait for students on the open grass areas surrounding the school property.  Please remember to maintain 6 feet of distance and kindly wear a mask if there are others nearby.  We highly suggest if your student is not a busser to use our drop and go. 

Procedures when entering school:

  • Students will line up at their door maintaining 6 foot social distance from others.
  • Students will wear their masks prior to entering school.
  • Student temperatures will be checked as they enter the building.  

Drop and Go in the Parking Lot: 

  • Beginning at 8:30, parents may pull into the parking lot entrance and pull up to the front doors.
  • Stop and students quickly exit the car through the passenger side of vehicles.  Parents stay in the car and follow staff member’s directions.

Student Dismissal

  • The parking lot is closed from 2:50–3:10.  
  • Please park out on the street to wait for your student to exit the building.
  • Only one parent of a kinder, 1st and 2nd grade student can come on property to meet their walker.  You MUST maintain 6 feet during that time.

Cook County Travel Quarantine List

There are a number of nearby states on the Cook County travel quarantine list that have been identified as “hot spot states”. Any person entering Cook County after visiting one of these high-incidence states for more than 24 hours must quarantine for 14 days after returning home.  For students enrolled in hybrid instruction, this would mean they must attend school remotely during the quarantine period.  Your child’s attendance would be considered “present” when learning remotely during a travel quarantine.  Please consult the Suburban Cook County Travel Quarantine List, and let your child’s teacher know if you plan to travel to any of the states listed.

We have also created a Reopening District 54 Video, which can be shared with your children to help them better visualize the school day.   • November 25-27:  Thanksgiving Break
